A deepfake video advertisement on Facebook, seemingly featuring Michael Hewson, a financial analyst, promoted a WhatsApp investment group promising high returns. AI was used to clone his voice and manipulate his words, although real images of Hewson were used. This followed a previous Times investigation into a rise in deepfake impersonations of FTSE chief executives in investment fraud.
