A 16-year-old student at Mason High School has pleaded guilty to a felony charge of pandering obscenity involving a minor following the creation of AI-generated pornographic images. The case is one of two separate incidents involving Mason High School students arrested during the school year regarding the production of AI-generated sexual content featuring fellow students.

What happened

The 16-year-old defendant used artificial intelligence to generate pornographic material by pulling photos from the social media accounts of underage classmates. He subsequently disseminated these images, leading to a felony charge of pandering obscenity involving a minor. Warren County court records confirm the guilty plea was entered on June 29, with a sentencing hearing scheduled for July 15.

A second student, a 17-year-old, was also arrested in a separate case involving AI-generated pornography. While this student faces over 50 child pornography-related charges, authorities noted that the individual allegedly possessed the AI-generated material but did not distribute it. The 17-year-old has been placed on house arrest.

Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell highlighted the challenges posed by these cases, noting that while legislation regarding AI-generated pornography is currently in development, the rapid advancement of technology often outpaces legal and law enforcement frameworks. Fornshell expressed concern over the trend, emphasizing the difficulty of ensuring responsible use of AI tools among young people who have constant access to sophisticated technology.
