Maryam Nawaz deepfake (Feb 2025)

Three cases filed under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2025 in Lahore, Pakistan, alleging creation and distribution of AI-generated deepfake videos and images depicting Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in an immoral light. Additional charges under sections 500, 504, and 505-1 (C) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) were also included. Complaints filed by citizens and businessmen cite uploading on social media, causing reputational harm and spreading misinformation.
