- Incident date
- Mar 2026
- Target
- Martin Lewis
AI-generated deepfake videos of Martin Lewis are being used to promote fraudulent investment schemes, resulting in substantial financial losses for unsuspecting individuals. These sophisticated scams clone Lewis's voice and face from his real TV appearances, making them difficult to distinguish from genuine content.
What happened
The deepfake videos appear on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Google ads, WhatsApp, and even MSN News. They promote fake investment platforms, often called Quantum AI, promising large returns. Victims who engage with the ads are then contacted by scammers who pressure them into sending funds. The scammers create the illusion of increasing profits on the fake platform, encouraging victims to invest even more. When victims attempt to withdraw their funds, the scammers prevent the withdrawal and demand additional fees, revealing the scam. By March 2026, these scams had already resulted in £20 million in losses. Martin Lewis has stated that he does not endorse investments and any ads featuring his image are likely scams.
