Marina vd Roest underwent deepfake therapy where she confronted an AI-generated deepfake of her abuser. The deepfake was created using photos of the abuser and was operated by a therapist during the session. The patient could speak to the deepfake and express their feelings, with a therapist present to guide the conversation. This was part of a pilot study and a larger study is now underway in the Netherlands.
