The creator of 'Good Advice Cupcake' publicly condemned BuzzFeed's decision to partner with Amazon on an AI-created animated series featuring her character. Loryn Brantz, the artist behind Cuppy, voiced her strong disapproval, accusing BuzzFeed of exploiting her creation.
What happened
Brantz expressed feeling betrayed, stating BuzzFeed had assured her of involvement in any future Cuppy projects. She revealed that she had pleaded with BuzzFeed CEO Jonah Peretti not to pursue the AI project. Amazon announced three projects using their GenAI Creators Fund, including 'Cupcake & Friends' from Buzzfeed Studios, which utilizes Amazon's Project Nara platform with AI tools. Peretti responded that BuzzFeed wished Brantz could have been involved, but she was categorically opposed to any AI involvement.
