In May 2026, a man in Carrizo Springs, Texas, was arrested and charged with possession of computer-generated child pornography. The case underscores the potential for misuse of AI technology.

What happened

Adan Covarrubias, 31, was arrested after authorities discovered over 900 AI-generated pornographic images and videos on devices seized from his home. The images depicted what authorities described as "prepubescent and pubescent" children. Law enforcement determined that Covarrubias allegedly manipulated photos from open-source pages affiliated with South Texas schools, using AI tools to create the images. Approximately 30 child victims have been identified. In addition to the AI-generated content, multiple non-AI-generated pornographic images of children were also found in his possession.
