What happened

The minute-long video utilized a clip of the Defence Minister appearing to speak during a press conference on a private news channel. However, the audio track was entirely synthesized using artificial intelligence. In the fabricated audio, the minister appeared to compare Pakistan’s development unfavorably against India’s progress in technology, infrastructure, and international standing.

The AI-generated content went further, featuring the minister making inflammatory claims regarding regional instability, specifically alleging that "Balochistan has slipped from our hands" and that residents of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir were in distress. The clip concluded by having the minister question the nature of Pakistan’s democracy and challenge citizens to hold the government accountable for the country's current situation.

On August 24, 2026, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting intervened to stop the spread of the misinformation. They shared the video on X, clearly labeling it as fake and stating that the Defence Minister had never delivered such a statement.
