In July 2026, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman released a 60-second political advertisement utilizing an AI-generated digital doppelganger of Governor Kathy Hochul. The video, released on X, depicts the AI-Hochul walking through various New York City locales to criticize her policies regarding crime, taxes, immigration, and energy costs.

What happened

The advertisement features a synthesized version of Governor Hochul delivering scripted dialogue that mocks her administration's achievements. The AI-generated avatar appears in several digitally rendered environments, including a hotel lobby hosting migrants, a park, a hilly expanse with wind turbines, and outside an NYPD precinct. In the video, the digital facsimile claims to be bragging about raising taxes by $8 billion, implementing no-bid contracts, and ending cash bail. One segment features the AI-Hochul interacting with an AI-generated character who offers her crack cocaine outside a police station. The spot concludes with a mock-up campaign sign reading "Criminals, Cronies, and Illegal Immigrants for Hochul." The release of the ad follows recent public friction between the two political figures, with polling showing a narrowing lead for the Governor ahead of the November 3 election.
