Following the India-Pakistan match at the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup, a synthetic video circulated on social media falsely depicting a physical scuffle between Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Pakistani captain Fatima Sana. The video, shared by an Instagram user on June 15, 2026, claimed a heated argument occurred during the June 14 tournament match in Birmingham.

What happened

The viral clip was debunked after investigations revealed significant visual anomalies, including misspelled text on team jerseys and instances where uniforms appeared to be worn upside down. To verify the footage, investigators utilized specialized detection tools; SiteEngine analysis determined the video was 98% AI-generated, while the audio was flagged as 76% AI-generated or tampered with by the platform Hiya. Sports editors confirmed that no such altercation took place during the match, which resulted in an Indian victory. While the teams did maintain a no-handshake policy during the toss—a practice in place since April 2025—the alleged confrontation was entirely fabricated using AI synthesis.
