A website called 4 Pillar Games (4PG) has drawn ire from the tabletop gaming community for publishing AI-generated biographies of game designers. The site used AI-altered images, including those of deceased designers, leading to accusations of disrespect and historical inaccuracy.
What happened
The site, which claims to be an "independent tabletop gaming publication, editorial platform, and historical archive", published biographies with AI-generated text and images. The images of deceased designers Greg Stafford, Lynn Willis, and Steve Perrin, were called "AI slop" by Chaosium's VP, Michael O'Brien. Living designers like Elizabeth Hargrave, David Thompson, and Cam Banks also criticized the site, with some considering legal action. The biographies contained repetitive phrases indicative of AI authorship, and the site initially refused to remove the content when requested, instead asking designers to submit corrections. Two individuals listed on the site's 'About' page, Don Perrin and Tony Lee, have since publicly resigned.
