Elliston Berry deepfake (Mar 2025)

A 14-year-old high school student, Elliston Berry, was the victim of a deepfake attack in October 2023 when a classmate used AI to create nude images of her and circulated them around school. The images were created by photoshopping a nude body onto Berry's photos from Instagram. The incident deeply affected Berry's mental health. The male student who created the deepfakes also targeted seven other girls. The incident occurred off school property, hindering the initial response. Three of the girls transferred schools. Berry's parents struggled for months to get Snapchat to remove the images, only succeeding after contacting Senator Ted Cruz's office.
