A Lyft driver has been accused of attempting to scam a customer by submitting an AI-generated image as evidence of damage to their vehicle. The incident involved a teenage passenger and a disputed damage fee.

What happened

A father reported that his daughter, Ella, and a friend used Lyft after a trip to the beach. He was later notified of a $75 damage fee, supposedly for a mess the driver claimed the teenagers left in the car. The father contacted Lyft customer service and received a photo as evidence of the damage. Ella noticed an AI-generated watermark on the image. The father raised the issue with Lyft, which agreed the image was not authentic and issued an apology. The driver was permanently removed from the platform.
