A coordinated information operation is currently targeting the Polish segment of social media, utilizing AI-generated content to strain relations between Ukraine and Poland. The campaign involves the dissemination of short videos that falsely attribute provocative, anti-Polish statements to deputies of local councils from various regions of Ukraine.

What happened

The Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine identified that these videos are being circulated across TikTok, Facebook, and X. The content claims that Ukrainian officials published offensive posts; however, investigations confirm that no such statements exist on the deputies' official pages.

The attackers utilized AI to create fake avatars of the officials, which do not resemble the actual individuals. Furthermore, the CCD noted that the voiceovers in these videos contain linguistic calques from the Russian language, suggesting a connection to previous Russian information operations detected in the Polish information space. The campaign remains active, with new videos continuing to appear online as part of an ongoing effort to manipulate public opinion.
