Delhi Police have arrested 24-year-old YouTuber Nadeem Ahmed for fabricating and distributing an AI-generated video that falsely depicted a police officer misbehaving with a woman. The footage was circulated during a protest in the national capital, with the intent to incite hostility against law enforcement personnel.
What happened
On October 3, a video began circulating on social media, falsely presented as CCTV footage from a protest site near Jantar Mantar. The video appeared to show an individual in a police uniform acting inappropriately toward a woman. Following an investigation, Delhi Police traced the content to a YouTube channel operated by Nadeem Ahmed, a resident of Palwal, Haryana.
During initial questioning, Ahmed admitted to using AI tools to create the deceptive footage. He stated that his objective was to tarnish the image of the police, hoping to provoke protesters into developing hostility and potentially turning violent against officers on the scene. Police officials noted that the video was released during a period of heightened tension, coinciding with demonstrations held by the All India Students’ Association and other groups.
Authorities have seized Ahmed’s phone for forensic analysis to determine the extent of his activities. Investigators are currently examining his sources of funding, potential accomplices, and whether the creation of the video was part of a larger, coordinated effort to disrupt public order. Ahmed remains in police custody for further questioning.
