In May 2024, a 20-year-old was arrested for allegedly violating the TAKE IT DOWN Act by creating and distributing deepfake pornography. The suspect is accused of using artificial intelligence to generate the illicit content.
What happened
The suspect allegedly published around 113 albums containing depictions of approximately 50 identifiable female victims. The images and videos reportedly garnered nearly a million views. One album allegedly featured graduating students, using manipulated yearbook-style portraits in sexually explicit videos. Investigators believe at least one original photo was sourced from a victim's Instagram account that the suspect followed. The suspect allegedly wrote on his account “All fakes are mine,” and claimed to be adding new content frequently.
