LPGA star Charley Hull has issued a public warning to her followers regarding the rise of AI-generated content and fraudulent social media accounts impersonating her. The golfer took to X and Instagram to clarify that these deceptive profiles are attempting to mislead fans by pretending to be her identity.

What happened

On August 30, 2024, Hull alerted her audience that scammers are using AI-generated material to impersonate her online. These bad actors are messaging individuals to solicit money and falsely claim they are in a secret relationship with the athlete. Hull explicitly stated that she does not maintain accounts on TikTok, Telegram, or WhatsApp, noting that any presence on those platforms is fraudulent. She maintains official accounts only on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Beyond simple impersonation, the scammers are actively requesting financial assets, including money, gift cards, and cryptocurrency. Hull emphasized that she will never send private messages asking for these items. She also clarified her personal life, noting she has been in a committed relationship for over three years to counter the false narratives spread by scammers. This incident is not isolated; Hull previously issued a similar warning in December 2023. Other professional golfers, including Nelly Korda, Lexi Thompson, Danielle Kang, Michelle Wie West, Morgan Pressel, Hannah Gregg, Jennifer Kupcho, and Paige Spiranac, have reportedly dealt with similar scams for years.
