Ariana Madix, the host of Love Island USA, has publicly condemned ITV Studios Australia for the unauthorized use of her likeness in an AI-generated promotional video. The incident highlights growing tensions regarding the use of synthetic media in entertainment marketing without the consent of the featured talent.

What happened

In October 2024, a promotional video for the eighth season of Love Island Australia featured Ariana Madix in a segment where she appeared to pass off the keys to the villa. The footage showed Madix, dressed in a colorful strapless dress and sunglasses, speaking to the camera. However, Madix stated on Instagram that she was never informed that the footage she had previously shot would be manipulated or integrated with AI technology.

The promotional clip, which Instagram labeled as "AI content," was used to tease the Australian show's takeover of the Love Island USA villa in Fiji. Following the video's release, Madix expressed her firm opposition to the use of AI, commenting, "They didn’t tell me AT ALL that the clip I shot would be used with AI. Something I am firmly against." The video also featured AI-generated models renovating the villa, a creative choice that drew criticism from viewers who questioned the production's reliance on synthetic imagery. ITV Studios Australia, the production company behind the series, has not provided a comment regarding the incident.
