In May 2026, a South Texas man was arrested and charged with felony possession of computer-generated child pornography. The arrest followed an FBI raid that uncovered over 900 images and videos of AI-generated content at his residence.

What happened

Adan Covarrubias, 31, was arrested following a months-long investigation that began with the FBI Del Rio Office executing a search warrant in April 2026. Investigators found more than 900 AI-generated pornographic images and videos, along with non-AI-generated images. Covarrubias allegedly took photos from websites associated with nearby schools and manipulated them using AI tools. DPS identified about 30 child victims. The charges were made possible by Texas Senate Bill 20, which went into effect in September 2025, targeting depictions of minors in obscene activities, regardless of whether the depiction is of an actual child, a cartoon, or AI-generated.
