A 25-year-old man was arrested in Bengaluru after creating and sharing an AI-generated video that falsely depicted a bomb blast at the Vidhana Soudha, the seat of Karnataka’s legislature. The incident has raised significant concerns regarding the potential for AI tools to be misused to create misleading and alarming visuals of attacks on prominent public landmarks.
What happened
The accused, identified as Hazarat Ali, a native of Bihar’s Araria district, allegedly created the fabricated footage and shared it via an Instagram account identified as jnx_king_h_g. The video depicted a person pointing toward the Vidhana Soudha building before AI-generated effects simulated a large explosion, making it appear as though the structure had been destroyed.
Although the video went viral on social media, no actual blast occurred at the site. Following the widespread circulation of the clip, the Instagram account was deactivated. Bengaluru Police subsequently arrested Ali and registered a case at the Vidhana Soudha police station. Investigators are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the creation of the footage and are working to determine the motive behind the act. This incident serves as a stark example of how fabricated content, when presented without context, can mislead the public and create unnecessary alarm regarding the security of government infrastructure.
