On July 18, 2026, a viral video surfaced on the Facebook page Only In Birmingham depicting WBRC digital anchor Jhas Williams in a fictionalized encounter with contaminated produce. The clip, which utilized AI technology to simulate the likeness of the anchor, played off recent news coverage regarding a significant multi-state health crisis involving a parasite.

What happened

The video was produced by the Only In Birmingham Facebook page as a humorous take on WBRC’s reporting regarding a national cyclospora outbreak. In the original news broadcast, Jhas Williams reported on the spread of the parasite, which has been linked to cases of "explosive diarrhea" across more than 30 states and is currently approaching 7,000 confirmed cases. The AI-generated version of Williams was depicted in a fresh produce aisle, where she was shown fighting a "monster lettuce" before performing a celebration dance. The satirical content was created shortly after Taylor Fresh Foods announced a recall of lettuce sourced from central Mexico that had been distributed to certain Taco Bell locations. While the health situation is severe, the AI video served as a satirical reaction to the viral nature of the news headlines surrounding the outbreak.
