In July 2026, a viral image purported to show an official notice from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami expressing solidarity with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). The false claim, which was circulated by multiple news organizations, was quickly identified as an AI-generated fabrication.
What happened
The incident involved the distribution of a doctored letterhead that contained several detectable inconsistencies. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the word "Bangladesh" was misspelled as "Bangladeshe" in the header, and the body text exhibited significant digital distortion. Furthermore, the logo featured on the letterhead did not match the official logo used by the party on their verified website and social media channels.
Verification efforts confirmed that no such statement of support had been issued by the organization. A keyword search across credible news reports yielded no evidence of the alleged alliance. To confirm the origin of the image, the file was analyzed using AI detection tools. SightEngine returned a 99 percent certainty that the image was AI-generated, while Hive Moderation reported a 99.4 percent likelihood of artificial creation. The incident highlights the risks of misinformation campaigns utilizing generative AI to manufacture political consensus and influence public perception.
